Mini abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to achieve a flat stomach by removing excess skin and fat from the abdominal area, and tightening the underlying muscles without changing the position of the navel. This method can also help eliminate stretch marks below the belly button. Both men and women can undergo this procedure. It is important to note that a tummy tuck is a contour correction surgery, not a weight loss surgery.

Ideal candidates for mini abdominoplasty are patients with loose abdominal muscles due to childbirth, stretch marks in the lower part of the navel, and sagging abdominal fat that does not go away despite weight loss. Candidates considering pregnancy are advised to postpone the surgery until after giving birth.

Before the operation, a detailed medical history and abdominal examination are conducted. The surgeon gathers information about medications, additional health conditions, previous surgeries, and pregnancy history. Abdominal measurements are taken, and necessary photographs are captured. Final plans are made with drawings just before the operation.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes 1-2 hours. It begins with a linear incision in the bikini area, extending from both pelvises and following the shape of underwear. Excess skin and adipose tissue are removed, and the lower abdominal muscles are tightened both above and below the navel. The location of the belly button remains unchanged. A drain may be placed, followed by appropriate dressing and a special corset.

After the operation, patients can start eating within a few hours and are discharged after being mobile. Initially, walking slightly forward is recommended. Drains, if placed, are removed within a few days, and one-day hospitalization is required. Patients can bathe after being discharged and can return to work within 10-14 days. The corset is worn continuously for one month, and heavy activities and sports can be resumed after one month.

Liposuction often accompanies mini abdominoplasty to achieve a more attractive abdominal contour. It can be applied to the abdominal tissue, hips, side fat pads, and back. Breast surgery can also be added during the same session, depending on the individual’s concerns.

There may be undesirable effects due to general anesthesia or the surgery itself. Since the abdominal tissue will be tense, wound healing problems may occur. Therefore, maintaining effective communication with your doctor before and after the surgery is essential. Incision scars will be permanent but are placed along the bikini line, and scar treatment can be provided by your doctor if necessary.
